How did your running journey start?

In a school cross country race hosted by Sale Harriers when I was 11.

What were/are your main/favourite distances?

Cross country runs from 8 miles -15 miles on undulating muddy under foot conditions. The experience been made even better on a brisk sunny day in woodlands and on trail paths.

What would you consider your greatest personal athletic achievement, and what did it mean to you?

Winning a 25k road race in the Champagne region of France on a really hot day. I was a teacher on a french exchange trip with students and 3 of us (teachers)decided to enter the race on the day. On finishing the race I did not know I had won the womens race as I do not speak french; it was all a bit of a surprise to be honest as was the prize money! The flowing champagne post race a result too.

How did/has your approach to running change(d) throughout your career?

I like to run on my own usually to get places or home from work. I do not really race much these days and I’m not bothered by the thrill of a position/place. I just like to do my best, feel good and enjoy the experience. As age takes its toll on my body-I run slower and for longer!!

Favourite race you’ve seen and why

Always the London marathon

What injuries have you had, how did you treat them, and how did it affect you mentally?

Various knee injuries as a result of playing hockey and then a skiing accident resulting in cruciate ligament operation to repair it…should not have jumped! Keep exercising and moving then recovery come faster than you think!

What was/has been your number one challenge throughout your career, and how did you overcome it?

Balancing work, training and socialising. The former of which needs to GO!

What is your number one piece of advice?

Keep running because you enjoy it and still can.
