International Speedway 5k
Florida USA : 27.01.07
Shay Joyce flew the Orion Harrier flag with distinction whilst holidaying in Florida
by taking part in the unique Daytona 5k which took place on the world famous Daytona
Speedway Car racing Track ahead of the big "Rolex 24 Hours Car Race" later that day.
The car race fans who had travelled from across the US were camped on the massive
in-field and cheered the runners on in the race which started at 7 am which is
usual for road races in Florida as the cooler early mornings are more suitable
for running in the Sunshine state and avoid the soaring temperatures later in
the day even in February which can be in the 70's and 80's.
From an entry of 2,500 Shay finished third overall and first under 25 clocking 16.43.
The first three broke away after 1K and fought out a close race right to the finish.

Tonbridge Half- Marathon : 25.02.07
An amazing performance from Ricky Goad in this ("Undulating", he said!) half-marathon -
especially when one considers the troubles he's been having with his knee in recent years.
We are not worthy. Great run, Ricky

Barcelona Marathon : 04.03.07
Just a little bit behind the winners, but in his defence Martin
fell at 16 miles, twisted his right ankle and ran the final 10
miles in serious pain resulting in a very large swollen ankle
and bruising up to the middle of his calf! Otherwise he's sure
he'd have given the first 3 a run for their money!!
Orion runners looking for a good European City Centre Marathon
could do much worse than go for Barcelona next year its well
organised, good weather, nice course taking in all the major sites of the city
and pretty much flat throughout. Just keep an eye out for the very large
cats eyes in the road as they can cause you to come a cropper!

Brian Bowering raced in the British Masters Championships at the wonderful
new Indoor Stadium at Picketts Lock @ the w/e - 03 + 04.03.07
On Saturday he had his first taste of the steep boards on the curves,
whilst suffering 'little bit of a cold, but I'll get round!' in the 1500m.
And on Sunday he came second in the 3000m, despite the officials screwing up
and Brian running an extra lap!
