SoEAA - Inter-Counties + London XC Champs, Parliament Hill : 08.12.07
Shay Joyce ran strongly to place 16th U23 Man and also led home the Essex Team 44th overall
in this combined Senior Mens London Race and Junior Mens Southern Inter-Counties race with
nearly 300 starters. Shay also led Orion in the London Championships, finishing 14th,
just ahead of clubmate Jack Stroud 45th/15th with Neil McGoun 81st/31st and Kevin
Julian in 132nd/65th in and 12th Vet home. It looks like Orion finished 10th of 41 London teams.
Gavin Lewis also starred for Essex in the U17 Mens race when he also finished as the 1st
Essex runner of an 8 man team, 18th in the U17 Mens race.
Natalie Kipps was 6th in the U20 Womens race in her first Essex vest and led home the Essex her U20
Womens race.
Lauren MacGregor ran out of her skin in the U15 Girls and jointly led home the Essex. Jay
Andrews suffered a knee injury to finish 62nd. Essex U15 girls team finished 4th.
Armani Antoine-Chager also won her first Essex Vest in the U13 Girls Race but was unwell on
the day yet finished 50th in her race!

In the Junior Womens Race Orion Harriers celebrated Double Gold as Natalie Kipps became
Essex Champion with a clear and convincing victory and along with team mates
Lauren Richardson 6th, sister Rebecca Kipps 7th and Jo Hadaway 8th, Orion also took Team Gold.
8 Orion Senior Men ran in the Essex XC Champs and the team's 9th position from 18 clubs
competing wasn't bad, bearing in mind the team lacked key runners Richard Kigsnorth (injured),
Shay Joyce (abroad) plus Jack Stroud and Ben Hall, currently on top form but in the U20s race.
Looking at the team scores, had Richard and Shay been running a score around 100 to 120 was
well within our reach, perhaps delivering Team Silver or Bronze Medals so there's no doubt
the future looks bright for Orion at county level.
Orion's runners and positions were; 31 Neil McGoun, 34 Danny Moses, 36 Eric Paul,
67 L.Hutton, 91 R.Bulaitis, 99 P.McHugh, 131 Peter Bulaitis and 152 Peter Deadman.
There were 160 Finishers.
In the U20 Mens race or very high quality Jack Stroud was 5th and Ben Hall 10th.
The Under 17's, Under 15's and Under 13's saw big Orion Harriers turn out and a full
report will appear on the Orion Harriers Junior Web Site.

Neukirchener U23 XC International, Dusseldorf, Germany 02.02.08
Orion Harriers 19 years old Natalie Kipps is celebrating a successful trip to Germany where
she represented the South Of England U23 team in this meeting. Natalie returned from her
European venture with a Team Bronze Medal, being the team's 4th scoring member in a tough
race against other international teams. The trip to Germany came at the end of a whirlwind
period in her running career. Natalie became the SX U20 XC ChamP, her 1st ever title with a
clear victory at Basildon on 19 Jan. Her victory led to selection to represent Essex and her
debut was at the Southern Inter-Counties Championships on 26 Jan where another excellent
performance saw Natalie lead home the Essex team in 6th place and after the race UK Athletics
SoE Team Selectors picked her for Dusseldorf.
Holding her medal after the race Natalie said "The team manager was pleased with the team's
performance and it was a great experience and I've learnt a lot about European Cross Country
Courses. I think I can run better. I didn't get a good start and got caught in the pack
around the zig-zag course with lots of tight turns which made it hard work to progress
through the field but with 8 in our team with 4 to score I was pleased to grab 4th scoring
position and get the Bronze Medal, so all in all I've got to be satisfied and hopefully I'lL
get other opportunities."
Natalie's Coach, former England cross country international Maxine Joyce said "I'm delighted
for Natalie, she's a smashing girl with the right attitude. Consistent hard work and
dedication has this year transformed her into a different athlete from the past and she can
get better if she wants to. I'm grateful to the South of England team managers for giving
her the opportunity. It's given her a great boost".
