& FAQ

We are probably out running, so to help us respond quickly and make sure your message reaches the right person, please use the contact that best suits your enquiry from the below list.

However, before you send that message make sure to read the below FAQ for answers to the most common questions we receive. Click the + to find your answers.

This will help you get the answer much quicker. Although we do ask you to be patient with us – we are all volunteers and would much rather be out running than doing emails.

FAQ

For track sessions the minimum age is 8+ yrs old. For XC the minimum age is 12+ yrs. Unfortunately, we can’t make any exceptions to this.

We recommend choosing a group that is slower than your normal pace to begin with. While you will run quicker in a group, we want your first few runs with us to be comfortable and enjoyable. Our groups are designed to allow our members to move around – one week you might feel fast, others you might feel slower. That’s natural, and the group you are in is not the group you are tied to.

Yes, we offer everyone two free, no obligation, sessions. If you then decide we are the club for you, then ask you become a member. The easiest way to become a member is via the Join Us section of this site, which outlines all the costs and options. If you still have questions please use the email address below for Memberships.

First of all congrats on taking what many of our members say is the most difficult step – approaching a running club. We recommend you give our Wednesday evening runs a try first. Group 6 is our dedicated one for those new to running, or getting back into it. You can sign up to let us know you are coming via the Club App.

Trainers are a good idea, but don’t stop there. Depending on the weather you may want extra layers, but layers are always a good idea rather than one thick top. Many of our members wear shorts or leggings all year round, so this part is personal preference, but either way feeling comfortable and confident is what members. In the warmer weather we recommend bringing some water with you. During the darker nights an item of high-viz and a head or body torch is a good idea for your safety. You can find all these items cheaply, you don’t need to spend a fortune on them. We also recommend looking out the window – we find this helps.

We do not have parking at the club. The nearest parking is along the same road, about 3 minutes away. You can find out more here. This is a pay-to-stay car park. Please see the car park signs or their parking app for latest costs as we have no affiliation with the carpark.

Congrats and very exciting to hear! We offer a number of training sessions depending on what you want to get out of your marathon. It’s worth looking at Tuesday track runs if you want to increase your speed, Wednesday social runs if you want to run in a group and have some enjoyable miles mid-week, and then also recommend prioritising the Sunday long runs to get some miles into the legs with other marathon runners. You can find all these runs under the Group Sessions section.

First we recommend you read the relevant race page under the Fixtures section of this site. We aim to put all the key info on these pages. If after reading these you still have questions, you can use the Orion Races email below.

Not all of our runs take part in the forest. The route is down to the group leader, and this is typically posted in advance for you to decide. Some of our run leaders prefer the forest, some prefer roads. However many of our members who said the same will soon tell you that running in a group with head/body torches in the winter months and enjoying the coolness of the forest canopy during the summer evenings really is something special. Generally our groups when in the forest stick to the wider, flatter paths.

While we will try to do our best to promote your run, we remind you that our runs and interclub runs will take priority. As we have a packed calendar of runs for our members it’s very likely there will be a clash. You can send a note to the Orion Races email below, and we will do our best.
Nice! New shoe day is maybe even better than getting a medal. Don’t forget to take a pic for your Strava.

Unless it’s the eating kind we are not interested, and sometimes not even then. We put these emails straight into the trash folder and block your email. Please don’t bother sending it.
