Local parkruns are popular with some members for training or low-key competition
parkrun organise weekly, 5km timed runs around the world. They are open to everyone ,all ages and ability, free, and are safe and easy to take part in.

Walthamstow, Gunpowder and Roding Valley parkruns are the closest and most popular with Orion members, but at least six others are an easy drive away. They take place at 9am on Saturday’s all year round!
Gunpowder parkrun
Only 3 miles from the clubhouse. A 2 lap (and a bit) course in Gunpowder Park, Waltham Abbey. Gravel paths with small uphill bit each lap. Parking area fills up quickly.Toilets available. Usually around 100 runners. Several Orion regulars. Our 12 week beginners course builds to a run here.
Roding Valley parkrun
Widely regarded as King of the local parkruns, a two lap flat course in Loughton partly on concrete path and partly on grass. A whole core team made up from Orion Harriers members what’s not to like? Usually around 130 friendly runners. Limited parking available but car sharing and public transport (397 bus from Chingford) are recommended.
