Local parkruns are popular with some members for training or low-key competition

parkrun organise weekly, 5km timed runs around the world. They are open to everyone ,all ages and ability, free, and are safe and easy to take part in.

Walthamstow, Gunpowder and Roding Valley parkruns are the closest and most popular with Orion members, but at least six others are an easy drive away. They take place at 9am on Saturday’s all year round!

Walthamstow parkrun

This is probably the nearest parkrun for most members.  Parking is easy. Changing and shower possible at Peter May Sports Centre.
3 lap course, all grass, around sports pitches with one gentle climb each time. Orion members are often helpers or organising.

Gunpowder parkrun

Only 3 miles from the clubhouse.  A 2 lap (and a bit) course in Gunpowder Park, Waltham Abbey. Gravel paths  with small uphill bit each lap.  Parking area fills up quickly.Toilets available. Usually around 400 runners.

Roding Valley parkrun

A two lap flat course in Loughton partly on concrete path and partly on grass. Very popular with OH members,

Usually around 130 friendly runners. Limited parking available but car sharing and public transport (397 bus from Chingford) are recommended.Gets very muddy in winter
